A series of stories on bachelors who knew their way around the kitchen featured Bennett Brown Jr. in Atlanta in 1956. The article features a famous lowcountry recipe for Chicken and Rice (Chicken Perlo). LowCountry Chicken Perlo Recipe:

Boil a hen until tender, remove onto a platter. To two cups of broth add one cup of rice and cook until rice is done. Remove chicken from the bone and mix pieces well with rice. Season well with salt and lots of pepper. Steam for a while. Place on a large platter. Garnish the top with two hard-cooked eggs, add paprika. Serve with a tossed salad and brown and serve rolls.
